The community of Benito Juárez, in the capital city of Zacatecas, is in shock following the murder of Miriam, a woman around 52 years old, at the hands of her romantic partner.

The perpetrator, identified as Óscar, 58, recorded a video on Facebook announcing his intention to end his own life and hinting at his plan to kill her.

“I’m making this video to say goodbye to everyone. You all know my life has become very complicated, and I really miss affection,” he said coldly.

In his words, he justified his decision, claiming that his partner had kicked him out of the house and had threatened him.

Óscar recorded the video just over an hour before arriving at the house located on Vicente Guerrero Street. In the message, he admitted his resentment and bitterness, blaming Miriam for his emotional instability.

“I took good care of her. She never had to walk anywhere or anything. Maybe she’s going to go with me… Maybe she’s going to go with me,” he added with unsettling calm.

The video quickly went viral among friends and family who tried to alert the authorities.

Despite reports filed after people saw the message, security forces were unable to arrive in time to prevent the tragedy.

Details of the Femicide and Suicide

The crime occurred while the victim was at home, taken by surprise by her attacker, who was armed with a .22 caliber revolver. After shooting her, Óscar took his own life at the scene, leaving it marked by horror and grief.

The full video revealed his disorganized thoughts but also his cold and calculated decision.

“If you hit them, they’ll come and kill you in jail, and I’m not up for that,” he said, justifying himself to the camera.

The attacker expressed his refusal to seek legal help, claiming that the authorities would not take him seriously.

Cold Justifications from the Attacker

He said he felt “bullied” and humiliated by his partner, constructing a narrative of victimization to explain his crime. In his statement, he admitted that he had spent years trying unsuccessfully to please her.

“I’m comfortable, I’m calm, I’m fine, but I just couldn’t measure up for this woman,” he declared in a tone that deeply unsettled everyone.

He claimed to have provided her with stability and care, even selling properties to support their life together.

“Her house is good, she had good insurance, she had a good life, but she’s not satisfied,” he complained before ending his farewell.

Femicide and Suicide Shock the Community

The femicide has triggered alarm in Zacatecas, where gender-based violence continues to be a serious problem. Miriam was originally from Veracruz and had no close relatives in Zacatecas who could claim her body.

The case is under investigation by the Gender and High-Impact Prosecutor’s Offices, which are working to clarify every detail of the crime.

Feminist groups in the region have denounced the murder as yet another example of extreme gender-based violence.

They stress the urgent need for effective prevention and protection policies for women in situations of risk.

Investigation Led by Prosecutor’s Offices

Organizations defending women’s rights are demanding stronger strategies to curb femicides.

The murder-suicide case sparked outrage over the slow response by police despite prior warnings from people who had seen the video. Neighbors expressed their horror upon learning of the tragedy and called for greater surveillance and attention to signs of violence.

The tragedy in Benito Juárez adds to the long list of femicides that shake Mexico every year.

As the investigation progresses, family members and activists are demanding justice for Miriam and accountability for those who allowed impunity to prevail, according to El Heraldo de México.
